The Equal Opportunity Commission has existed since 1991, and its office was formerly run by the University Women's Office - Equality of Women and Men. Its members were elected for two (maximum eight) years.

The commission still focuses on the networking of women and equality-conscious men at the University of Zurich. It is concerned with making the best possible use of the funds and projects within the framework of the Federal Equal Opportunity Program for the advancement of women at the University of Zurich and thus increasing the proportion of women professors. VAUZ is still today represented by two members in the commission.

Since the fall semester of 2008, the University of Zurich has offered Gender Studies as a master's minor program UZH - Institute of Asian and Oriental Studies - Welcome to Gender Studies
