The university didactic continuing education programme is aimed at assistants and some senior assistants who want to improve and optimize their teaching and provides them with a comprehensive continuing education programme. Various courses and programs are available depending on the objective and requirements:
While assistants often do a lot of teaching, this was (and in some cases still is) not usually considered an academic qualification. For a career in academia, only proven research and a correspondingly large number of publications counted. Today, however, more and more attention is being paid to experience and proven teaching skills when filling positions, including appointments to professorships. It is not the VAUZ's intention to demand more teaching activities from mid-level faculty. On the other hand, the VAUZ is of the opinion that teaching, which is already carried out by assistants, should be recognized and rewarded accordingly. Under certain circumstances, the teaching experience and didactic skills gained could become a decisive advantage in an academic career at a later stage. This goal is pursued by the Teaching Skills and CAS University Didactics qualification programs. VAUZ encourages all assistants with aspirations in teaching to complete one of these programs.
