UZH Fund for Networking among Junior Researchers

For over 20 years, VAUZ managed a conference fund to promote networking among junior academics of the University of Zurich, which was transferred to the UZH Graduate Campus in 2024.
The resources for this fund came from VAUZ membership fees and contributions from UZH.

The fund has been alimented by UZH since 2020. The fund supports in particular the attendance of scientific events (conferences, symposia, workshops and the like) that are of considerable importance for young scientists at the University of Zurich.

The VAUZ Conference Fund is a 'last resort' fund.
Accordingly, all available options must first be exhausted.
(Chair, faculty, UZH GRC, other sources of funding)

See also the information on expenses and travel grants).

Contributions

Contributions can be granted for

  • attendance fees
  • travel expenses
  • accommodation expenses
  • travel and accommodation costs for children or dependent relatives of the applicant who are subject to custody, unless the care during the attendance of a scientific event can be organised otherwise
  • childcare or nursing/care professionals for close relatives of the applicant, if care by the other parent or close relatives is not possible or not appropriate.

The maximum contributions per person included in the application
amount to

  • CHF 1250 for participation at an event outside Europe
  • CHF 600 for participation at an event in Europe

Only the actual costs incurred are reimbursed.

In cases of hardship and if there is no other financing possibility, we can also finance shorter research stays (up to max. 10 days) or cover costs related to the organisation of a scientific event. The maximum amount is CHF 1250.

Application

The applications are reviewed and approved by the VAUZ managing board. The payments are carried out by the UZH Graduate Campus.

Please submit the application form to tagungsfonds@vauz.uzh.ch.

Applications can be submitted on the 20th of each month; the decision will be announced within one month.

The application can be submitted within the above-mentioned deadlines (payment is only made after completion and on the basis of the supporting documents submitted). In accordance with its function as a last resort fund, the approval decisions of other bodies must be awaited first.
