  • Federal Relief Package 2027

At the end of January 2025, the Federal Council opened the consultation process for the 2027 relief package.

The federal budget is to be reduced by CHF 2.7 billion in 2027 and CHF 3.6 billion in 2028 in order to cover rising expenditure on pensions and national defense.

The areas of education, research and innovation (ERI) could be hit hard by the cost-cutting measures. The representatives of the affected areas have formed and issued statements.

They are now warning against drastic savings because the proposed budget cuts of over CHF 460 million per year could have a significant negative impact on the Swiss education, research and innovation sectors.
